Dell PowerEdge R650xs

Dell PowerEdge R650xs – 1U Dual-Socket Rack Server A compact 1U chassis built for scale-out density, the R650xs pairs two sockets with the efficiency Dell needed to hit an aggressive price-performance target for medium-duty workloads. It runs 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, up to 32 cores per socket, backed by 16 DDR4 DIMM slots running at 3200 MT/s for a 1TB memory ceiling. Storage is genuinely flexible: choose 3.5-inch bays for bulk capacity or 2.5-inch NVMe-capable configurations for latency-sensitive workloads, and pair either with PERC or HBA controllers depending on the RAID or pass-through requirement. Three PCIe Gen4 slots plus an OCP 3.0 mezzanine keep networking and accelerator options open. iDRAC9 and the OpenManage stack handle lifecycle management, telemetry and firmware security, including Silicon Root of Trust. Every unit sold through our configurator is built to your specification – processor count, memory capacity, drive type and quantity, and RAID controller are all selectable before checkout.

The Dell PowerEdge R650xs occupies a deliberate niche in Dell's 15th-generation lineup: a 1U, dual-socket platform tuned for scale-out workloads where per-node cost and density matter as much as raw throughput. It accepts up to two 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with as many as 32 cores each, giving a fully populated chassis up to 64 cores in a single rack unit – a meaningful density gain for virtualisation clusters or scale-out database nodes where rack space and power budget are the constraining factors rather than single-thread performance. Memory scales across 16 DDR4 RDIMM slots at speeds up to 3200 MT/s, with a practical ceiling of 1TB when populated with high-capacity modules. Only registered ECC DIMMs are supported, which is standard for this workload class and keeps the platform aligned with enterprise reliability expectations. Storage flexibility is one of the R650xs's stronger points: front bays can be configured as up to four 3.5-inch SAS/SATA drives, up to eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA/NVMe drives, or up to ten 2.5-inch drives depending on backplane choice, with a further two NVMe/SAS/SATA bays available at the rear. Controller options range from the entry-level S150 software RAID through the PERC H345/H355/H745/H755 family to HBA355i pass-through for software-defined storage, so the right controller depends entirely on whether the workload wants hardware RAID or direct disk access. I/O headroom comes from up to three PCIe Gen4 slots and a dedicated OCP 3.0 slot for network cards, keeping the embedded dual 1GbE LOM free for management traffic if a faster fabric is fitted. There's no GPU support on this chassis, which is consistent with its positioning as a general-purpose scale-out node rather than an accelerated compute platform. Power supply options span 600W to 1800W across Platinum and Titanium efficiency tiers, all hot-swap and redundant, letting a configuration be tuned for either maximum efficiency or headroom for fully loaded NVMe builds. Management runs through iDRAC9 with the iDRAC Service Module and Quick Sync 2 wireless module, exposing a RESTful Redfish API, telemetry streaming and thermal management that integrate with OpenManage Enterprise, VMware vCenter, Microsoft System Center and Ansible. Security is built in from the silicon up: Secure Boot, Secure Erase, cryptographically signed firmware and Silicon Root of Trust are all present, with System Lockdown available under iDRAC9 Enterprise or Datacenter licensing. Buying this platform refurbished makes particular sense given its role. The R650xs was never positioned as a flagship – it's a workhorse built to be deployed in numbers, which means the secondary market carries genuine volume and a wide spread of configurations to match specific virtualisation, database or HPC node requirements rather than a one-size-fits-all spec. Every unit we supply is configured to order and covered by a 12-month warranty, so you get a platform matched to the workload rather than whatever configuration happened to come off a decommissioned rack.

Better for the Planet Extending the life of enterprise hardware keeps electronics out of landfill and reduces the carbon footprint of manufacturing new equipment. Every refurbished server is one less in the waste stream.
Significant Cost Savings Enterprise-grade hardware at a fraction of the new price. Deploy more compute power for your budget, whether you're building a homelab, scaling infrastructure, or equipping a development team.
Enterprise-Grade Quality Server and workstation hardware is built for 24/7 operation in demanding data centre environments. These machines are engineered to last — refurbished units have years of reliable service ahead.
Professionally Refurbished Every unit is stripped down, cleaned, inspected, and rebuilt by our experienced engineers. Components are tested individually and as a complete system before grading and dispatch.
