The C220 M5 packs a full two-socket Intel Xeon Scalable platform into a 1U chassis, making it one of the most space-efficient dual-CPU servers Cisco has shipped. It supports both first- and second-generation Xeon Scalable processors, so buyers can match core count and clock speed to workload rather than settling for whatever a single generation offers.
Memory scales across 24 DDR4 DIMM slots from 8GB to 128GB modules, with Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory support for applications that benefit from large, persistent working sets. Storage is genuinely flexible: backplane options run from ten 2.5-inch SAS/SATA/SSD bays to an all-NVMe configuration, or four 3.5-inch bays where raw capacity matters more than drive count.
Networking is handled by dual embedded 10GBASE-T ports plus a dedicated mLOM slot that accepts anything from 1Gbps up to 100Gbps adapters, so the same chassis can serve as a modest edge node or a high-throughput cluster member. Cisco's UCS management stack, Intersight, IMC, UCS Manager carries over unchanged from new-build deployments.

The Cisco UCS C220 M5 configurator lets you build a dual-socket 1U server around the workload rather than a fixed spec sheet, choose your Xeon Scalable generation and core count, memory capacity up to the DIMM limit, and a backplane that suits either drive-bay density or an all-NVMe build.
