HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 - Refurbished 2U Rack Server The DL380 Gen9 is HPE's dual-socket 2U workhorse, built around a redesigned chassis with Universal Media Bay options spanning 8 to 24 SFF or 4 to 12 LFF drives, plus rear and NVMe bays for extra expansion without eating into front-panel capacity. This generation moved to Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 processors, up to 22 cores per socket, alongside HPE DDR4 SmartMemory scaling to 3.0TB across 24 DIMM slots - a genuine step up in both compute density and memory bandwidth over the previous generation. Underneath sits 12Gb/s SAS connectivity, flexible embedded and FlexibleLOM networking from 1GbE through to 40GbE, and support for single- or double-wide GPUs where workloads call for acceleration. Embedded HPE iLO handles out-of-band management and provisioning from day one. The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 pairs a dual-socket Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 platform with a chassis engineered for configurability. Processor core counts run from 4 up to 22 per socket with clock speeds up to 3.5GHz, and 24 DIMM slots of DDR4 SmartMemory support a maximum of 3.0TB, giving genuine headroom for memory-hungry database and virtualisation workloads rather than forcing an early ceiling. Drive configuration is where the Gen9 chassis earns its reputation for flexibility. Depending on the backplane fitted, you get 8, 10, 16, 18 or 24 SFF bays, or 4 or 12 LFF bays, with optional rear SFF or LFF drives and up to 6 NVMe drives via Express Bay for latency-sensitive tiers. Storage controller choice ranges from the embedded Dynamic Smart Array B140i for basic boot and data needs up to the Smart Array P440ar or P840 for hardware RAID with battery-backed cache, so the array can be matched to the workload rather than over- or under-specified. Networking is equally adaptable: embedded 4-port 1GbE is standard, with optional FlexibleLOM and PCIe standup adapters scaling from 1GbE to 40GbE depending on the fabric your environment runs.
